Investment Team – Summer Analyst
As a summer intern, you will work on dedicated projects and gain meaningful exposure to finance and long‐term investment. You will present in weekly investment team meetings, interact with investment managers, and help monitor existing investments. We will train you in financial modeling and due diligence techniques, teach you the fundamentals of asset allocation, and familiarize you with the process of selecting high-quality investment managers. You will receive training and mentorship from our entire team. Successful interns may be considered for full‐time analyst positions post-graduation.

Investment Team – Analyst
As a full-time member of our team, you will hone your quantitative and qualitative investment skills. You will research potential new investment partners, present in weekly investment team meetings, write investment recommendations, and lead special projects. We will teach you the fundamentals of asset allocation, including mean-variance optimization, and the process of selecting investment managers and underwriting investments. You will learn about a broad variety of investment strategies and asset classes. You will gain financial modeling skills, improve your written communication, and learn due diligence techniques. You will travel occasionally, typically to major financial centers in the U.S. and abroad.

Does SMC prefer candidates with specific academic backgrounds?
We accept candidates from any major and course of study. Our team has a broad variety of academic backgrounds. For instance, Managing Director Mary Mei double majored in Economics and Chinese, Associate Director Andrew Elott was a History major, and Analyst Megan Byrnes was an MS&E major.
Does SMC prefer Summer Analysts from a specific year of study?
We will consider current undergraduates, with priority given to upper-level students.
What are possible career paths after working at SMC?
We operate as a meritocracy, and we view the Analyst position as the beginning of a challenging and rewarding career in investment. If you are successful, we hope you will work at Stanford for many years. Previous Analysts and Associates have also gone on to attend top-ranked business schools, joined notable investment firms, or taken other roles within institutional investing.
